Middle School Math

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:
A white board on the side of the room will list, for each class, the following:
- Focus (the topic of the day’s lesson)
- Essential question (which the students should be able to answer by the end of class)
- Homework assignment (to be written in the student’s planner)
- Notes such as upcoming test, materials needed for the next class, etc.
Students are expected to be in their seats by the time the tardy bell rings, with everything they need for class (sharpened pencil, textbook, paper, and completed homework assignment).
Students are expected to take notes in class. The day’s notes should begin with the focus and essential question and include all the examples reviewed in class.
GRADING:
70% Tests, Quizzes, and class projects (individual and group)
20% Homework
10% Class participation
HOMEWORK:
Homework will be assigned every night except:
Homework will be graded as follows:
- 100% - All problems completed on time and work shown.
- 10% deducted for each day of unexcused lateness, up to 3 days
- 0% - Homework not completed within 3 days unless excused
- Partial credit for incomplete assignments
- No credit for answers only
- Students unable to complete assignment due to illness or family emergency need to bring a note from home; the assignment will then be due the next day with no penalty
- Students absent from school need to complete missed assignments within three days
