Objectives |
|
We are pleased to introduce Marine Science to our Clover Garden
curriculum. This course will fulfill the
Earth/Environmental Science requirement for High School
students. Our Marine Science curriculum is required to
cover all of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study Earth
Science Goals but with a Marine/Aquatic focus.
The Marine Science curriculum will incorporate the following
areas:
- Ocean weather - with focus on hurricanes, tsunamis
- Shorelines - erosion, deposition, topography, ecology
- Ocean creature tracking
- North Carolina wetlands, beaches, bays, and estuaries
- Ocean water properties - currents, temperatures, density,
salinity
- Ocean seismic activity and geology
- Human impact on marine environments
In addition to marine focused objectives, we will also cover
specific standard course of study objectives that are
traditionally studied from a land based perspective.
- Lithosphere / Plate Tectonics / Earthquakes
- Geology and Radioactive Dating
- Rock cycles
- Atmosphere / Meteorology / Weather
- Solar System / Astronomy

Tests: 60%
Quizzes: 10%
Homework, Labs, and
Participation: 30%
While there is no EOC
for Marine Science or Earth Science produced by NCDPI, this
class will include a cumulative final exam. The Marine
Science Final exam will make up 25%
of your final grade just as an EOC would.
Make up work for
excused absences must be made up within three days
from your return to
receive credit. You are responsible for obtaining your
missed work.
